Women's Health Frequently Asked Questions

It’s a specialist branch of physiotherapy that focuses on issues related to the pelvic floor, pelvis, abdomen and core. Things like bladder leakage, prolapse, pelvic pain and postnatal recovery. It’s not just for new mums, it’s for women at every stage of life who want to feel more in control of their body.

Absolutely not. These issues are extremely common, but sadly, not often talked about. You are not alone, and there’s no judgment here. We’ve created a private, safe and supportive space where you can feel comfortable discussing things that matter to you.

First, we listen. We’ll chat about your symptoms, medical history, and how it’s affecting your life. Depending on your needs, we may do a physical examination, which can include checking posture, breathing, core strength and pelvic floor function. If appropriate, an internal examination might be offered, but this will always be explained fully and is only done with your clear consent.

This depends on the severity of your knee condition but we have had patients, go another 11 years before replacement is required, that is nearly the length of time a new knee can last. Sometimes helping them with addressing issues and resulting weight loss can be the answer, we are here to support you, make an appointment today and let us help you with your knee pain.

Most treatments are gentle and focus on making you feel better, not worse. You might experience some discomfort during assessment or treatment, especially if you have pain to begin with, but Lauren will always work at your pace and explain everything clearly.

That depends on your individual situation. Some women feel significant improvements after just a few sessions, while others need more time for their bodies to heal and strengthen. Lauren will give you a clear idea after your initial assessment, and we will continuously review progress together during treatment.

Yes! It’s never too late. Whether you had your children last year or 20 years before, pelvic floor and core issues can still be improved. A Mummy MOT is a great starting point, and Lauren can tailor treatment to suit you.

Definitely! Hormonal changes during menopause can affect pelvic floor strength, bladder control and sexual comfort. Women’s Health physiotherapy offers practical, hands-on ways to support your body through this stage of life.

Many private health insurers do cover Women’s Health physiotherapy, but it’s best if you check with your insurer beforehand. We are happy to provide invoices or paperwork as needed.

Comfortable clothing that you can move in, like leggings or joggers work best. If an internal assessment is planned, this will be explained in advance, giving you plenty of time to prepare. Everything is done at your pace and with your consent.
